Project Description

SIMPLE BUT STYLISH GARDEN

Albany Road, Stanmore | Residential

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers
2014 – National Gold Award Residential Design under $50,000

Philip Goodman of Goodman Building Services renovated this traditional Inner West terrace. OUTHOUSE design was engaged to create a simple but stylish garden that would complement the home and Philips great work.

Our client’s key request was to create a landscape design which was stylish. Additionally, a design which included an open lawn to enable him to wash his beloved classic car. As well as a place to sit and relax or to enjoy a glass of wine. This garden design is a great example of less is more.

The landscape design needed a focal point to draw your eye into the garden from the kitchen. The smooth organic shapes of the hand crafted timber furniture floats above a sea of Ophiopogon japonicus (Mondo grass). This is complimented by the seasonal drama of the Cercis canadensis tree (Forest pansy), its beautiful bark, stunning bright purple flowers and massive heart shaped leaves make this small tree a brilliant addition to this garden.

The pavements clean, crisp lines create a seamless visual connection to the feature seating. Smooth rendered walls with a curved return compliment the home. As do the organic patterns laser cut into the wall mounted panels. Westringia fruticosa (Grey box) and Rhaphiolepis indica (Oriental pearl) planting, together with native groundcovers soften the garden bed, with up lights creating soft evening interest.
