As an established landscape design practice based in the Inner West of Sydney, we appreciate parking is a premium and the last thing our clients want to do is remove this benefit, but on the other hand integration of hard standing as part of the garden is key so you maximise space.

After this traditional inner-city terrace received a full renovation at the rear of the home, it was time to bring life into the tired courtyard, but with one major request from the client, the car parking must be retained and an overhead protection structure installed.

So, the design solution was to create a bespoke light weight structure that was more a sculptural item rather than a standard carport, and take this shape as an inspiration for the seating, BBQ station and hard standing for the car. Staying with this calm organic shape, creates a natural flow within the small space. This coupled with over sized organic step stones, lush planting and feature deciduous tree blurs the lines within the space, offering car parking by night and covered seating area by day.
