ABOUT THE PROJECT

At OUTHOUSE design we champion any opportunity to promote the benefit of green and the many amazing emotional and environmental benefits plants bring to the community. And so, after the incredible success of the Santas Secret Garden project, OUTHOUSE design was approached again to continue to drive and celebrate the sustainable footprint of Macquarie centre.

Each year as part of the overall Christmas decoration display the centre creates a menagerie of oversized void and floor-standing pieces designed for maximum impact. These life-sized animals were supported by extensive synthetic lawn covered plinths.

Our job was to re imagine the display supports and bring them into line with the AMPs green direction.  So the first thing to go was the extensive use of synthetic grass and the chance for every animal to feel the softness of living plants underfoot.

With this fresh tactile and colourful planting envelope, it’s time for the kid’s imagination to run Wild! A visit the centre is now a memory maker and a chance for young minds to realise that maybe the jungle does come to life at Christmas time. With Christmas dust being sprinkled, maybe the Majestic Giraffe will watch over them. The King of the Jungle will roar! and the Elephant will trumpet and sound the stampede.

Our planting takes nothing away from the extreme size and scale of the animals, and the visual impact, but plays its part in creating a more natural experience that the centre would want all that visit to experience. As with all the displays, the drop in nature of the planting allows a rapid installation to produce a safe, flexible and fun statement piece of green art that could be easily stored for next year.
