Project Description

Green Connnecting Hub

Henrietta Street, Waverley | Residential

ABOUT THE PROJECT

2023 – National Gold Award – Residential Design Small Garden

The rear garden of this terrace in Sydney’s east may be small, but its layout and flow make it feel so much bigger. With the recent addition of a two-storey home studio with parking above, it was important to complement the timber and concrete structure, creating a calm visual flow of materials.

This is an extremely low maintenance garden, but still has retained a strong personality.

The garden acts as a green connecting hub and can be viewed not just from the lounge and studio, but also from above. Keeping the materials simple was key, with concrete poured onsite, then carefully honed to reveal the selected subtle aggregate tones, complementing the timber finish.

Bespoke seating was created to meet the clients’ specific height needs, as was the BBQ bench top, both providing valuable storage underneath. The large format paving is installed in a stretcher pattern to reinforce a sense of width and copper eyelights bring a warmth of subtle light in the evening. This, as well as the calm flow for the water feature, create a sense of engagement and focal point from within the garden and internal rooms.
