Project Description
MILLER PARK COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND
Cabramatta Avenue, Miller | Playground
ABOUT THE PROJECT
OUTHOUSE design was engaged by Liverpool City Council to create a Landscape Master plan for Miller Park including a community playground. This key location is a major community hub, but like all Local Government projects, budget allocation was limited, but that didn’t mean we would be limited by our creative ideas. With well-considered landscape design you can always provide a cost effective solution, whilst still using products that offer longevity, low maintenance and value for money to rate payers and users alike. Like many Government focused projects, community consultation was a key element and formed a major factor in the design development process, so works were prioritised to ensure we achieved the key deliverable for the Stakeholders.
This major park offers a broad range of key facilities from an extensive off–leash dog facility that incorporates interactive landscaping such as planted mounds, tunnels and training activities, together with shelter and water. Miller Park is an extensive playground with multiple overhead shade structures giving year round protection and a blend of traditional play items and natural play structures such as log stilts, balance bridges and stones islands. Another key factor for the community was exercise and health promotion for all ages, so an all access gym was designed and located at key intervals along the pedestrian pathway circuit. The entrance to the community playground was redesigned to ensure clear site lines, enabling strong passive surveillance was maintained from the local residents at all times. The overall planting selection was all local natives, this would ensure low maintenance and longevity.
“Project design including concept design, community consultation and construction drawings ran smoothly and was designed within budget. The final design provided a great asset and recreation space for Liverpool City Council and the community.”
